John Hughes has 20+ years of racing experience and has been actively engaged in the cycling community since 1991. While working and managing Pete's Cycles in Parkville, MD, John started Avalon Racing which had both racing and club memberships. Avalon cultivated John's love for the sport and created a thirst to completely immerse himself in cycling both on and off the clock. Following Pete's Cycles, John worked for Hudson Trail Outfitters managing the bike department for six separate locations. After a number of years at HTO, it felt like the right time to create his own niché in the local cycling community and give back some of the knowledge he had acquired. This is when the concept of 90+ Cycling began to come alive.
In 2011, John started 90+ which has grown into the premiere training program for cyclists and triathletes in the mid-Atlantic region. 90+ was the exclusive training program for TriColumbia and has recently become the exclusive cycling program for Ulman Cancer Fund and Team Fight.
John's intuitive and approachable coaching style inspires rave reviews from athletes who have participated in his classes and experienced, first hand, better race times and personal "bests". His knack for creating highly effective training plans, yet still be understandable to athletes of all levels, is a natural result of combining years of experience with a friendly approach. John guides athletes to to their next goal thru personal and group training, nutritional guidance, testing, and bike fitting.
"There is more to training then just writing a training plan, you need to make sure athletes know how to execute the plan and understand proper form." - John
Jennifer Coyne began doing triathlons in 2006 as a way to get healthy after quitting smoking. Since then she has completed a number of sprint, Olympic and half Ironman distance events, qualifying for Nationals twice, as well as half and full marathons. Jennifer began working with John Hughes at 90+ early in 2014 in preparation for the 70.0 Savageman Triathlon, in which she placed 3rd in her age group and discovered her passion for cycling. In 2016 Jennifer began participating in time trials, took up mountain biking and in 2017 did her first road race and placed first in the Women's Cat 5 at Shenandoah and That Damm TT time trials.
For a number of years after being a stay home Mom, Jennifer was a personal trainer and trained in martial arts until becoming a full time licensed massage therapist in 2010. Jennifer also received her Masters degree in Applied Nutrition from Northeastern University in 2016.
Working closely with John and from her own experiences Jennifer has gained knowledge and skills with coaching, training, education and nutrition to improve and maintain her health and performance and now helps other athletes maximize their performance and health, minimize chances of injury, and maintain balance between training and everyday life.
